Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity. – JFK

Ben Warren & Sean Teasdale make up Adapt Health & Fitness. We’re both crazy about fitness & nutrition. We get excited because we know that functional movements performed @ high intensity and good nutrition can change your life – Sure that might sound a little cheesy but we have a genuine passion for seeing people get strong, lean and reach their fitness potential. To get the complete picture we’ve added a little bit more (or some mini Bios) about us below…

Ben Warren

Husband, dad, crossfitter, & all round media whore with a weakness for iced vovos, Ben is the founder and director of Adapt Health & Fitness. Ben is an excellent motivator and has a proven track record of helping his clients to achieve their health and fitness goals. Ben is an excitable guy who loves to bask in the media spotlight with his last appearance in April 09: an interview with Mel & Kochie on Seven’s Sunrise TV program (segment on dieting). Previous to that he appeared in the pages of the October 08 Men’s Health Magazine’s ‘Gutless Wonder’ section for ‘losing the lard’ and keeping it off (yes he used to be pretty big guy @ 107 Kgs) so he personally knows just how life changing the decision to get active and start eating right can be.

Sean Teasdale

Another avid crossfitter, Sean is the ‘epitamy of awesomeness!…’ no, but seriously: Sean is the second half of Adapt Health & Fitness. Hailing from a short stint in the air force he is known for his high intensity workouts (that normally seem to include lunges?) and his loud voice. With extensive experience in weight training and sport specific conditioning in many sports such as hockey and AFL, Sean tends to find a way for everyone to have a bit of a laugh while dripping in sweat. Sean has also used many unorthodox and new age concepts (eg. lunges) to help achieve the results that you are after – Sean is also known by a myriad of other names including ‘the lunge-master’, ‘lunge demon’ and ‘Mr Lunges’.

Qualifications
Both Sean and I are fully qualified Personal trainers (Cert 3 Gym Instructor + Cert 4 Personal Trainer) We’re also qualified Level 1 CrossFit Trainers and both have Senior First-Aid Certificates – So you can rest assured we actually know what we’re doing and you’re in safe hands! Other Qualifications include: POSE Method level 1 Runing Coach (Ben) and Club level 1 Olympic Lifting Coach (Sean)

So what’s in a standard session?

We’ll keep things simple: We run our clients through the same workouts we do. The workouts are intense and designed to test to you physically and mentally, but are also scaled to your individual ability (to keep things safe and ensure your constant progression). We think CrossFit WODs give you a fresh perspective on life: if you’ve truly pushed yourself to the limit at your last workout, what else is there, that could possibly come along in your standard day, that you couldn’t physically or mentally deal with? seriously? a pushy boss; impending deadlines; or too many emails…? seriously…?

If you didn’t know already: the more lean muscle mass you have – your more fat you burn. So we try to focus on incorporating a variety of strength based functional movements and cardio (huffy-puffy) into one effective workout that increases your heart rate, builds lean muscle mass (which is great for burning fat), increases bone density and provides numerous other health benefits – all in all: increasing your general work capacity – for life.

Each 1hr long CrossFit session generally consists of:

  • a skills and drills or technique based warmup that includes some dynamic ROM stretches;
  • a WOD: (or ‘Workout of the Day’) Generally a short yet intense and challenging workout;
  • a Finisher: depending on the workout we might run a little extra (just to get the last little bit of juice out); and
  • a cool down: including stretching

We think getting together with a group of like minded people is totally awesome! With a little friendly competition you tend to push yourself harder than you would have if you’d been working out by yourself. We’ve had guys rock up, have a couple of massive workouts in a row and get ridiculous results – just because they were motivated by others in the group…
